Q: Why is a professional placement company like Ad Hoc such an important asset for my job search?
A: At Ad Hoc, we know how difficult it can be to find employment that is a “fit.” The size and volume of the legal market makes it difficult to know which employers will match your skills, credentials, and personality. Ad Hoc takes the frustration of finding an employment match out of the process. Ad Hoc’s placement experts will match your credentials and skills with the needs of one of our clients. We take the time to learn about you and will only place you in positions for which you are qualified. The end result is a job search that is less frustrating and stressful and culminates with employment that is rewarding for both you and your employer.
Q: What should I look for in a legal placement company?
A: Not all legal placement companies are created equal. It's important that you choose a placement firm with a reputation for service, confidentiality, and professionalism combined with broad knowledge of the legal market. That gives us the time to focus on your needs, skills, and qualifications to ensure the best fit possible between you and our clients.
Q: Does Ad Hoc operate under the guidance of any recruiting industry standards?
A: Yes. Ad Hoc subscribes to the standards published by the National Association of Legal Search Consultants (NALSC). A: All information you supply in confidence to your recruiter at Ad Hoc will remain confidential, subject to our duties to our clients. The fact that you as a candidate are “on the market” will be disclosed only to clients whom you have expressly authorized us to contact. Q: Will my resume be considered for placement only by the Ad Hoc office to which it is submitted?
A: No. Ad Hoc’s offices share a centralized database containing resumes that are considered for positions throughout the world, regardless of the location of the recruiter you work with. Many of our clients are Fortune 500 companies with multiples offices and locations. Q: What are the advantages of working on a temporary basis in the legal field?
A: Legal professionals who work on a temporary basis enjoy exposure to some of the top employers in the market, while maintaining certain flexibility in scheduling that allows for a more beneficial work-life balance. Working on a temporary basis has the advantage of allowing legal professionals to hone their skills in a variety of cases and circumstances, as well as explore new areas of where they may not have a great deal of experience. Temporary employment also allows for the opportunity to experience an employer’s culture during a search for full-time employment—the temporary period may serve as a mutual audition, where both the prospective employee and prospective employer get the chance to see how well each meets the other’s needs.
Q: If I work as a temporary professional, does that prevent me from gaining a full-time position?
A: Not at all! In fact, many of Ad Hoc’s clients use temporary positions as an extended interview for full-time employment. Temporary work arrangements allow a prospective employer to find an employee that truly fits its needs. Further, temporary assignments give you the opportunity to “test” out a variety of different office environments during your search for a full-time job — you are able to make more informed decisions after experiencing the culture and type of work in different offices.
Q: What benefits might I be eligible for as a temporary employee of Ad Hoc?
A: Ad Hoc values the relationship it shares with the attorneys, paralegals and secretaries it represents. In one of the most revolutionary moves in our industry, we treat our temporary professionals as statutory employees, rather than independent contractors. And, as a part of a heightened level of service, Ad Hoc offers its employees competitive compensation and comprehensive benefits which holiday pay, vacation, direct deposit, referral bonuses, and access to medical insurance. Our complete package can be viewed in the “Temp Benefits” section of this site.
