 BETH SANDERS MOORE NAMED OUTSTANDING

COMMUNITY VOLUNTEER FUNDRAISER FOR 2007

 

Houston, Texas, October 10, 2007:  The Greater Houston Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) has announced that Beth Sanders Moore has been selected as the Outstanding Community Volunteer Fundraiser for 2007.  The selection was based on Moore’s continued volunteer commitment where she has raised over $30 million for the arts, education and health care organizations throughout Texas over the last 15 years.  She is most frequently noted for her association with The Beth Sanders Moore Undiagnosed Breast Clinic and The Beth Sanders Moore Young Breast Cancer Survivors’ Program, both of which are affiliated with The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center.  The award will be presented at the 23rd annual National Philanthropy Day Awards Luncheon on November 15, 2007 at the Hilton Americas in downtown Houston.

 

Other award recipients include:  Melbern G, and Susanne M. Glasscock (Maurice Hirsch Award for Philanthropy which recognizes Houston’s most outstanding individual philanthropist (s); Richard Dini of Dini Partners (Byron Welch Award for Lifetime Achievement in Fundraising); The Rockwell Fund, Inc. (Outstanding Philanthropic Foundation); British Petroleum (BP) (Outstanding Large Corporation; Land Tejas Companies, Ltd (Outstanding Small Corporation); VICTORY-a branch of the American Cancer Society (Outstanding Community Service Organization); Neighborhood Centers Inc. 100 Birthday “New Century Celebration” (Outstanding Fundraising Program – over $250,000); CHRISTUS Foundation for Health Care’s NUN RUN (Outstanding Fundraising Program – under $250,000); and Nan Duhon (Outstanding Fundraising Professional).

 

Beth Sanders Moore is a sixth generation native of Marshall, Texas, and a 1976 cum laude graduate of Texas A&M University.  After an early career in executive retail management and non-profit fundraising, she and her husband, attorney Jess Moore, established their companies which services law firms and corporate law departments throughout North America.

 

A breast cancer survivor, Beth is a leading advocate for breast cancer awareness and survivorship.  In addition to her work with the Undiagnosed Breast Clinic and Young Breast Survivors’ Program, she also serves on the Executive Committee of M. D. Anderson’s Board of Visitors and on the advisory committee of the Blanton-Davis Ovarian Cancer Research Program.  In December (2007), Beth will co-chair the inaugural Living Legends Luncheon in Houston benefiting M. D. Anderson Cancer Center and honoring Oscar-winning film producer, Sherry Lansing interviewed by ABC News’ Sam Donaldson.

 

Moore has also served as the Honorary Chairman of Baylor Breast Center’s first-ever Pink Ribbon House project, and is a former president and executive board member of Susan G. Komen for the Cure (Houston Chapter) where she still sits on the organization’s advisory board.  She is on the advisory board of the Pink Ribbon Project. 

 

In addition to her work with cancer programs, Moore has served on numerous other Boards and committees including The University of Texas Health Science Center, Sheltering Arms Senior Services, Hobby Center for the Performing Arts Capital Campaign, Houston Grand Opera and Houston Ballet.  She has chaired fundraising events for South Texas College of Law, AIDS Foundation Houston, Houston Alumnae Chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta, Museum of Fine Arts, March of Dimes, National Multiple Sclerosis as well as others.

 

Moore’s numerous awards and recognition include:  ABC Channel 13 Women of Distinction list in 1999; Pacesetter of the Year by The Cancer League of Houston in 1998; Spirit of Anne Morrow Lindberg Award from Huffington Center on Aging at Baylor College of Medicine in 2005; Hope Award from the Young Survival Coalition, an international nonprofit organization serving survivors of breast cancer age 40 and younger, received in 2006.

 

The Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) is the professional organization of individuals responsible for generating philanthropic support for a wide variety of nonprofit charitable organizations.  Founded in 1960, AFP advances philanthropy through its more than 28,000 members in 190 chapters throughout the world.

 

The Greater Houston Chapter of AFP was founded in 1969 and currently boasts a membership exceeding 500.  Serving as the leading association network of nonprofit professionals in southeast Texas, the chapter advances philanthropy through advocacy, research, education and certification programs.  Included in its offerings is an annual National Philanthropy Day Awards Luncheon designed to honor those individuals, corporations, foundations, and organizations that have demonstrated exemplary leadership in philanthropic efforts in the greater Houston area.  The event is also designed to raise awareness and interest in charitable giving.
